Passaic Gifted & Talented Academy - School No. 20
Passaic, NJ
Di Cara | Rubino Architects served as architect and construction administrator for the construction of a new state-of-the-art elementary school in the city of Passaic. The project was immensely successful in terms of effectiveness, delivery, and project management considering the fact that Di Cara | Rubino Architects took over the stalled project from a now-defunct design firm. Having Dobco as the original general contractor on the project (a firm we have worked with numerous times before) was indeed helpful and was beneficial in picking up the project where it left off and hitting the ground running. Skillful communication throughout the project team was integral to the success of the project, since we had not previously worked with some of the incumbent sub-consultants.
The NJSDA-funded project began with an intense site-selection process, the demolition of several decrepit buildings in an urban area, and numerous environmental issues. The new 116,000 square-foot facility is designed to educate upwards of 700 students in grades Pre-K to Grade 5 and includes a three-story academic and administrative wing consisting of numerous classrooms and administrative spaces. An additional two-story wing houses many of the common spaces, including a cafetorium, a gymnasium, and music and art rooms, and a unique courtyard space was created between the two wings. |
